Cannabidiol Treatment for Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome at a Single Tertiary Center in South Korea

Purpose: This study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of cannabidiol (CBD) as an add-on therapy for childhood-onset Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS).Methods: retrospective enrolled patients who visited Department Pediatric Neurology at Asan Medical Center from March 2019 to February 2022 were treated with CBD. Electronic medical records clinically relevant factors (including type epilepsy seizures, etiology, number concomitantly used anti-epileptic drugs) reviewed. The outcome was clinical response CBD (≥50% or <50% seizure reduction 1, 3, 6 months after introduction last follow-up visit). Relevant adverse events monitored.Results: Thirty included. median age onset 5.5 years (interquartile range [IQR], 3.3 25.3), a treatment duration (IQR, 7.0). Sixteen (53.3%) showed ≥50% follow-up. In univariate analysis, whose commenced 3 more likely respond (odds ratio, 10.11; 95% confidence interval, 1.05 97.00; P=0.04). Adverse observed in 11 (36.6%); most common event somnolence. Conclusion: could be option children young adults drug-resistant LGS tolerable safety profile. Age (>3 years) associated favorable treatment. Further prospective studies larger populations are needed evaluate various etiologies.
